Snooper My Speed & My Speed Aura Review

This product was produced due to customer feedback, “do you do a product that can just remind me what the speed limit is on any stretch of road?”, the result is the MySpeed. This unit will keep you posted on the prevailing speed limit as you drive and very cleverly changes as you past speed limit changes. You can have the unit beep to let you know the speed limit has changed or remain silent as you prefer. You can also have the unit beep if you go over the speed limit of the road you are on or again stay silent, but the screen will change from green with a smiley face to red with a frown! OK you don’t have to have the faces but we think it’s a fun touch.

We did find some side-roads where it didn’t know the speed limit for a short stretch and sometimes the limit was flagged as advisory (with an astrix) but on the whole it’s pretty impressive and I even learned a few things about speed limits on the road I drive everyday to and from work! It manages this but actually having a satellite navigation system under the hood as it where powered by NAVTEQ mapping but without the actual navigation functionally allowing you to have a small and discreet little unit that doesn’t need a massive display. It also has an overspeed option so you can set it to a fixed speed and it will alert you if your speed goes over this. I wouldn’t really set this at 30 or 40 but it’s useful to set at say 85 for long journeys and it will let you know if your speed creeps over this on the motorway for example.

The unit comes pre-programmed with the road speed limits and is ready to use out of the box. If you want to you can also upgrade this to a MySpeed Aura which includes Snoopers usual speed camera alerts by paying the annual fee (£2.99 a month or £29.99 a year at time of writing). You get the standard options for volume and brightness adjustment and there are some spoken alerts you can opt to have and indeed you can also change the language and speed units from MPH to KPH as this little baby has data to safely take you across Europe.
