Snooper Laser Pod Review

This is something we have been waiting for a long time! Quintezz bought out a half-hearted attempt to do this about 9 months ago but it does entail two cables trailing down the dashboard (unless you hardwired it in). The Snooper Laser Pod however has been properly designed with a small linking cable of approximately 6 inches to join up with your sat nav of choice to give you the much longed after laser detection for warning of mobile laser / safety camera vans to add to the database of fixed camera sites many sat navs come with these days.

If your sat nav has a mini USB socket for powering up (they are 5v and generally an industry standard) then your sat nav will be compatible. It is compatible with the Snooper S5000 and and S900 models but amazingly not older Snooper models like the S2000 and Indago. Thoughtfully mini USB cables have been supplied with the angled part of the cable coming out both sides so whichever way your USB socket is positioned on your sat nav you will have the cable for a neat installation.

Velco is supplied for attaching the Laser Pod to the back of your sat nav, which seems low tech but is the most universally compatible way. Also enclosed is a windscreen mount if you prefer and this can be used if you decide to use the unit as a standalone system.

In practice we found it better to actually attach the Laser Pod to the windscreen mount of your sat nav rather than the sat nav itself so that you could remove the sat nav from the car without having to unvelcro and unwire the cable system all the time which results in some funny mounting positions but as long as the round sensor on the back can see out of the front window and you can see the ‘head’ of the Laser Pod which has an inbuilt warning LED then you are OK. The unit also has an inbuilt buzzer for audio alerts.
To clear up some confusion in the market place the Laser Pod does not exchange any data with your sat nav, they simply share a common power feed. All alerts for the mobile laser traps come from the Laser Pod itself.
