Need for speed cameras questioned
A Lancashire MP is calling for a full audit of the county's speed cameras.

Conservative MP for Ribble Valley Nigel Evans says deaths on Lancashire's roads have increased in the past three years.

He says although more speed cameras have been added to the roads, many of them are proving unnecessary as they are failing to reduce accidents.

The council's head of traffic and safety, Terry Carter, has defended the cameras, saying the number of deaths and injuries has fallen.

Mr Carter said the number has decreased by nearly 60 in the past year.

He added it is the council's job to minimise the number of serious injuries and deaths on the roads.

"One of the tests is that we try to prevent people being killed or seriously injured on the roads," he said.
